The long awaited promise by Cameroon’s President Paul Biya is now a reality as the 1990 football heroes will receive the keys to their houses on August 26, 2020.

This was in a consultation meeting between some former players and the minister for Housing and Urban Development Celestine Ketcha Courtes in the presence of sports minister Prof Narcisse Mouele Kombi.

Though this gesture was reviewed days after the captain of that heroic squad passed on to eternity,  many say could this have been a reality if the former captain was still alive? A question for another day.

However,  the retired lions have finally been compensated with accommodations, as the keys of the houses built by the Cameroon Housing Corporation will be handed to them on August 26.

Speaking to the state media, Minister Celestine Ketcha Courtes praises the head of state for his determination to support the lions.

“Many were playing without any salary, so the head of state is to prove that he is continue to do everything possible to support our lions, to support our player and to make sure that if you give to the country like what we saw in 1990, the country will recognize it”, Minister Celestine Ketcha told CRTV’s Romeo Nkenyi.

It should be noted that, each player is free to choose the town of his lodging facility.

Former indomitable lions goalkeeper and part of the heroic squad Joseph Bell Antoine praises the ministers’  efforts to implement the president’s gesture.

“We are very happy because the ministers here are eager to implement what the head of state has said” Bell to CRTV’s Romeo Nkenyi.

With regard to the departed actors  of the squad,  [Louis Paul Mfede; Massing Benjamin and Stephen Tataw] the minister of Housing and Urban Development said all depositions are being  taken for their families to get hold of their legacy.

Reasons Why Some Senior Lions will not make the Netherlands trip.

Published

on

Indomitable Lions coach Antonio Conceicao has reduced the 32 man preliminary list to 24 to be part of the trip to the Netherlands where, they will have a one week training camp plus two high profile friendlies.

The previous list of 32 players was dominated by players based in Europe,  which many criticize why the coach never called players from Asia, Africa and other parts of the world.

Reasons why Players based out of Europe were dropped.

-The Dutch government had passed travel restrictions on players who are not based in Europe and this explains why players like Christian Bassogog and others could not make the list of 32.

The list of 32

In the list of 24, some big names like captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Nicholas Nkoulou, Njie Clinton and others based in Europe were dropped for several reasons.

-One of the reasons why some big names were dropped from the Dutch expedition was because,  the Dutch government have placed restrictions on some players coming from countries heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

This explains why, the lights of Njie Clinton from Russia,  Nicholas Nkoulou from Italy and others based in Europe were dropped.

-Again some players are busy finalizing new deals with their new clubs. This explains why a player like Vincent Aboubakar is focus with finalizing his deal with Turkish giants,  Besiktas.

Also, Captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting could not make the final list due to the fact that, he is without a club at the moment.  In fact he justifies his reason why he will not make it to the Netherlands expedition.

“I had a discussion with the coach and we reached an agreement that I should be dropped from the team since I currently don’t have a club. I have to make way for others and concentrate on getting myself a new club during this transfer window”.

List of 24

The indomitable lions of Cameroon will be involved in two high profile friendlies during the October window, as they play Japan and reigning African Champions Algeria.

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has endorsed Coton Sport’s Visa to the  2020/21 CAF Confederation Cup season.

This was confirmed on Friday September 25, 2020 during the General assembly of the Cameroon Football Federation in its Resolution Number 16 which confirms that, PWD social club of Bamenda and Coton Sport of Garoua who finished first and second in the 2019/20 season,  will represent the country in the CAF Champions league and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.

It should be noted that, this decision was taken based on scenario 2 of the circular from CAF on August 31, 2020 which states ” MAs that did not complete the 2019/20 season but season criteria for classify the teams or homologate competitions for 2019/20 season,  the engaged teams shall be the teams qualified from the national competition for 2019/20 season”.

This confirmation has cancelled all rhetorical questions, of which team will represent Cameroon in the CAF Confederation Cup.
