The friendly tournament held by participation of the third party South Korea who draw the opening game with Egypt goalless score , and suffered their second game against Brazil in a 1-3 loss to the South American football tycoons
Worthy to mention that Egypt made their significant victory in absence of their major trio Ramadan Sobhi (Team captain), Mostafa Mohamed (Top Scorer) and Ahmed Fattouh (Left Back) who joined Senior National team squad to play AFCON qualifier aller/retour games again Togo , which Egypt wone both games 1-0 home and 3-1 away just 1 hours before U23 historical victory yesterday over a full aquad of Brazilian Europe based squad in their same preparations for Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 summer
Ghana 2-0 Mali – Kwabena Owusu’s brace fires Meteors to the Semis
Black Meteors defeated Mali by 2-0 to qualify to the semi finals of the ongoing U23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Two late goals from susbtitute Kwabena Owusu secured the victory for Ibrahim Tanko’s side.
Coming into the game and knowing his side still has a chance of qualification, Tanko made on change to the team that started against Egypt.
Prince Polley was given his first start ahead Kwabena Owusu
Mali had a good start to the game and could have get the opener in as early as the 4th minute, but Tine was twice denied by the impressive Kwame Baah.
The Black Meteors grew up in the game began to take control of the game.
The Malians came close again in the 30th minute, but Allio Dieng effort was saved again by Kwame Baah.
Despite dominating the first half of the game, Mali couldn’t get the breakthrough till the blast of the half time whistle.
Ghana came from recess with an improved performance.
Yaw Yeboah came close to give Ghana the lead but his effort went wide.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko effected the first substitution of the game by bringing on Kwabena Owusu for Prince Polley.
Yaw Yeboah also went off for Frank Arhin as Ghana pushed for the opener.
Ghana finally had the breakthrough in the 74th minute, Kingsley Fobi crossed found Kwabena Owusu who headed home to give Ghana the lead.
Kwabena Owusu added the second for Ghana with four minute to go, capitalizing from a defensive howler to put the ball at the back of the net.
Ghana maintained their lead till the blast of the final whistle.
Whlith Egypt beating Cameroon in other game, Ghana joins Egypt in the semi finals of the competition.
Egypt snatches late win in dramatic game against Ghana
The Young Pharaohs of Egypt had to twice come from behind to record their second win in the ongoing U-23 AFCON, beating the Black Meteors 3-2 at the Cairo International Stadium.
In a high-intensity game, Egypt put up a spirited performance in front of the crowd to collect the maximum points after twice going down in the match.
Ibrahim Tanko made two changes to his line up that played against Cameroon with Emmanuel Lomotey and Samuel Obeng getting the nod over Simon Zibo and Issah Abass.
Ghana had the perfect start after Yaw Yeboah raced them into the lead in the 6th minute. He arrived early in the box to tap home after Samuel Obeng has gone past his marker.
Kwabena Owusu came close to doubling the lead for Ghana but the weight on his lob was too much as the ball went over.
Mostafa Mohamed drew the young Pharaohs level after rising highest to nod home a cross from Ahmed Fatouh.
Kwame Baah stood tall when he saved Ramadan Sobhi’s shot on the stroke of time.
Samuel Obeng increased the tally for Ghana a minute after the recess latching onto a loose pass from Egyptian player and rounding the keeper to drive home.
Egypt thought they had drawn level in the 56th minute but the goal was ruled offside. Moments later Kwame Baah came to Ghana’s rescue with a point-blank save.
Coach Tanko introduced Samuel Zibo in place of Michael Agbekpornu to shore up the midfield as the Egyptians were mounting pressure on Ghana.
Ramadan Sobhi equalised before Yasser Rayan put the North African side in front for the first time in the game.
The loss puts Ghana’s qualification in jeopardy as they will need to win their last game against Mali and hope for a favourable result in the game between Egypt and Cameroon..
Habib Mohammed scores late to grab Black Meteors draw against Cameroon
Ghana U-23 began their CAF U-23 Cup of Nations campaign with a hard fought 1-1 draw against Cameroon in Cairo.
Bayern Munich teenage sensation Frank Evina opened the scoring with a beautiful freekick on the hour mark after Habib Mohammed had commited a foul right at the edge of the box.
The Asante Kotoko defender redeemed himself by fetching the equalizer with three minutes left.
Following a lackluster display from both sides in the first half, the Cameroonians opened the scoring on the hour mark through Bayern Munich forward Frank Evina.
The 19-year old brilliantly curled in a beautiful freekick just at the edge of the box leaving goalkeeper Kwame Baah helpless.
Cameroon were close to grabbing a second but a solid defending from Edward Sarpong saw Ayuk’s effort in a good position go way wide.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko replaced captain Yaw Yeboah, who looked to have pick an injury with Evans Osei Owusu.
Kwabena Owusu, who took the armband from Yeboah had himself booked after bumping into a Cameroonian defender on the floor.
Minutes later Habib Mohammed pulled level after a pass from the middle deflected to his path in the box and like a fox he poked the ball into the net with four minutes left.
The Cameroonians were pushing for another goal but a last minute effort blasted wide saw the two sides share the spoils.
