- U23 Indomitable lions need a draw in last game to pass through to the semis
Cameroon’s U23 indomitable lions got their first win in the competition after edging Mali 1-0 in a group A second encounter.
Franck Evina, named man of the match scored at the 76th minute when he maximized from a loosed ball in the penalty box. The lions didn’t play as well as in their first game against Ghana but the essential was achieving a win.
“Good play was not part of us but it wasn’t today’s objective. We played a good game in the first game, but we didn’t win. Today we just played for the three points not withstanding the style, the objective has been attained”,
declared Samuel Oum Guet, captain of the U23 indomitable lions.
The lions with 4 points in 2 games are second behind Egypt who are at 6 points after coming from behind to beat Ghana 3-2. A draw against Egypt in the last and final game will qualify Rigobert Song’s lions for the semi-finals of the competition. Ghana with 1 point will face an already eliminated Mali (0 points in 2 games) and will have to assure a large win and hope for a Cameroon defeat to obtain the second seat for the semifinals.
