Under-20 Lions Finally Arrive Cameroon From Mauritania

Well, after getting knocked out of a competition, the next witty move is to head to base as soon as possible. The Under-20 Lions and staff however had some extra days to spare in Mauritania after their abruptly ousting. Keeping the team abroad entailed extra effort and cash!

The boys of coach Ousmanou Christophe have been spotted at the Nsimalen international airport – Yaounde, as the team finally arrived after roaming in Mauritania for an extra six days, though, knocked out of the Under-20 tourney by finalists Ghana on February 25.

The team arrived at exactly 12:54 through Air Maroc in one piece, a source told mysoccer24.com.

Cameroon gave a quite decent account of themselves though failing to make it through to the penultimate stages of the competition.

The lads defeated hosts Mauritania through the slimmest of margins (1-0), same with Uganda, all through goals from Junior Sunday, before walking through Mozambique (4-1), in the last of 3 group games.

Despite winning her group in style, Cameroon wasn’t able to get passed a tricky Ghana side. The Under 20 Lions drew first blood in the quarterfinals through Kevin Prince Milla, but lack of concentration saw Ghana equalise and eventually win 4-2 on penalties.

Gambia will play Tunisia for silver this Thursday, while Ghana pits Uganda on Saturday, March 6, for gold.

Cameroon’s tournament record;
Goals scored: 7
Goals Conceded: 2
Top scorers: Jang Sunday – 2 goals, Etienne Eto’o – 2 goals, Kevin Prince Milla – 2 goals.
