Cameroon’s U20 lions have qualified for the U20 African cup of Nations schedule for next year in Mauritania. This comes after Congo Brazzaville defeated DR Congo 2#1, in the last group B game in the ongoing UNIFFAC tournament in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Coach Ousmanou Christophe and his baby lions ran out 3#1 winners of Congo Brazzaville on Thursday, but had to wait for the last group game pitting the two Congo’s, to know if they will progress to the final or not.
In case DR Congo had won the game by a three goals different, the U20 lions of Cameroon, could have bowed out of the competition.
Unfortunately for DR Congo, they were beaten 1#2 this Saturday, by Congo Brazzaville. DR Congo took an early lead in the game thanks to a penalty at the fifth minute from Patient Mwamba, but Congo Brazzaville grabbed the Equalizer at the 34 minute, also from the penalty spot, through Okouri Roland.
A one all score line separated both sides at halftime, but Congo Brazzaville quickly took the lead early in the second segment, through Sagesse Nzaou.
All attempts from DR Congo to draw the game level were fruitless, as Congo Brazzaville carries the day 2#1.
A win for Congo Brazzaville means Cameroon’s U20 lions finished top of pool B with four points, and will now face the central African Republic in the final of the UNIFFAC tournament.
Coach Ousmanou Christophe and his boys have also automatically picked one of the two available tickets from the UNIFFAC zone, and have therefore qualified for the U20 AFCON scheduled for next year in Mauritania. 10 Countries have so far booked their tickets for the U20 AFCON.
