Although the goal was scored by Gan, it was Syamer Kutty Abba’s smart run that was almost entirely responsible for its success. Abba made a brilliantly-timed run into the post, which he followed with a clever pass to Gan inside the box – and all that midfielder had to do was to slot it past the goalkeeper, which he did to perfection.
It is worth mentioning that Gan was, in fact, surrounded by four defenders, but he still managed to find the net and that was largely because of Abba’s inch-perfect pass.
Gan’s goal is somewhat against the run of play, as it was Thailand who had been dominating till then. However, the goal comes as a relief for Malaysia, who have been looking to end their recent slump which saw them lose back-to-back matches against the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
They now have to score just one more goal against the War Elephants to get back to winning ways.
