Ghana have booked their place in the final phase of the World cup qualifiers after a 1-0 win over group rivals South Africa at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday November 14, 2021.
A 31 minute penalty from captain, Andre Ayew sealed the faith of the black stars going in to the play offs. The Ghanaians new they had to win by all cost to get a spot in the big ten battle.
Captain, Andre Ayew almost put the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter finalists in front, when he stormed his way into the box from the right, but his shot was deflected for a corner.
Two minutes later substitute, Kyereh had a good chance when he ran into the box from the left, but his powerful shot went over the bar.
The deadlock was broken at the 31st minute when captain, Andre Ayew converted from the penalty spot after Daniel Amertey was fouled inside the box.
The second half was tight, as the black stars new protecting their lead will guarantee their place in the final phase. The south Africans had chances of their own to equalize but could not capitalize on them.
Though both sides finished with 13 points each, Ghana had the upper hand based on goal difference: Ghana scored seven goals while south Africa scored six.
The black stars are the sixth African Nation to book their place in the play offs. They join the lights of Mali, Dr Congo, Senegal, Morocco, and Egypt.
