Four time African player of the year Yaya Toure has given his support to former international teammate Didier Drogba who has advertised his intention to run for the Ivorian FA presidency.
The former Barcelona and Manchester city midfielder believes Drogba is the right man to take Ivorian football to another level.
“Its time for change in our football. It needs modernity.”, Toure said on his instagram page.
“When I say I support Drogba, it’s also for the good of the country, to have a former player of his kind investing himself in Africa”.
He added, “Didier was my brother, my captain, people talk a lot about us but we were always calm, wise. We know each other.
“Too many people tried to criticize him, the press, the fans”.
It should be noted that the all the 14 Ex–Footballers did not vote for Drogba despite being the favourite to beat his challenger Idriss Diallo to the office.
Some sections in the Ivorian football community attributed the outcome of the results due to Drogba’s lack of experience.
There is still light at the end of the tunnel for the former Chelsea man as he still has another chance to get the endorsement he needs when members of the Active Footballers Association, the coaches, referees and the physios will also cast their votes.
Though the heat is on, the outbreak of COVID-19 has put everything in a halt.
