The midfield battleground in the Premier League is set to intensify, with Manchester United reportedly joining Arsenal in the pursuit of highly-rated Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
With Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford clouded by injuries and inconsistent form, United are prioritizing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window. According to journalist Dean Jones, Zubimendi has emerged as a target, although the 24-year-old is currently considered more likely to favor a move to Arsenal, who have been tracking him for some time.
While Casemiro brought experience and defensive steel to United in his debut season, his recent struggles have prompted the club to explore alternatives. Zubimendi, known for his ball-playing ability, tackling prowess, and consistent presence in winning duels, presents a potentially attractive upgrade.
However, Arsenal may hold the upper hand in this transfer race. The Gunners have reportedly been wooing Zubimendi for several windows, and their progress under Mikel Arteta could prove more appealing than a United side still under reconstruction. Additionally, Zubimendi could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Thomas Partey, whose contract situation remains uncertain.
