The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the dates for the qualifiers of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Morocco.

Details about the qualifiers:

  • The preliminary round will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the winners advancing to the first round of qualifiers.
  • The first and second rounds of qualifiers will be played in a single-elimination format, with the winners advancing to the third round of qualifiers.
  • The third round of qualifiers will be played in a group format, with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the 2025 AFCON.
  • The host nation, Morocco, will automatically qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

The qualifiers will begin with the preliminary round in March 2024, which will feature the eight lowest-ranked teams in Africa. The winners of the preliminary round will advance to the first round of qualifiers, which will be played in September 2024.

The second round of qualifiers will be played in October 2024, and the third and final round of qualifiers will be played in November 2024. The 24 teams that qualify for the final tournament will be joined by the host nation, Morocco.

The 2025 AFCON will be the 35th edition of the tournament, and it will be the first time that it will be held in Morocco since 1988. The tournament will be expanded from 24 to 32 teams, and it will be the first time that it will be held in the summer months.
