Jurgen Klopp’s Germany Plan Gives Arsenal a Timely Kai Havertz Boost

Kai Havertz has been handed a timely Arsenal boost after Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp named him in the first of two squads for the upcoming international window.

Klopp has selected 44 players for four Nations League fixtures across an extended September and October schedule. Havertz is part of the opening group of 22, which will face the Netherlands on September 24 before taking on Greece three days later.

That arrangement should allow the Arsenal forward to enjoy a short rest once those matches are complete, while Germany’s second squad handles the remainder of the international programme.

The timing could hardly be better for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s side return to action against Leeds United at the Emirates on October 10, before entering a demanding three-week period that includes six matches in the Premier League, Champions League and EFL Cup.

Among those fixtures are a trip to Bayern Munich and an EFL Cup meeting with League Two side Fleetwood Town. Havertz should therefore benefit from having fewer international commitments before Arsenal’s schedule begins to tighten.

Havertz remains important to Arsenal

The 27-year-old began the 2026/27 campaign as Arsenal’s first-choice striker and has recently kept Viktor Gyokeres out of the starting line-up.

He was on the bench for Tuesday’s 4-2 EFL Cup victory over Ipswich Town, but his importance to Arteta’s side has been clear during the opening weeks of the season.

Arsenal have won all four of their Premier League matches and conceded only once. Havertz has scored in both of the club’s home league games, finding the net against Coventry City and Chelsea.

The goal against Chelsea was particularly significant. Arsenal will need players capable of making the difference in major fixtures, and Havertz has shown that he can offer more than a physical presence in the penalty area.

Since joining Arsenal from Chelsea in June 2023, he has scored 39 goals in 117 appearances. He has also helped the club win the Premier League and two Community Shields.

Klopp has given Havertz a chance

Havertz’s inclusion is also important for his international ambitions. Denis Undav has been left out of both Germany squads because of injury, creating an opportunity for Havertz to establish himself as Klopp’s preferred centre forward.

The new Germany manager has already shown a willingness to take an unconventional approach. Splitting the squad into two groups gives him the chance to assess a wider pool of players while managing the demands of a crowded calendar.

For Havertz, the immediate priority will be to maintain his form for Arsenal and make the most of his appearances for Germany. A strong start to the international era under Klopp could put him in a powerful position ahead of the European Championship in 2028.
