It was a bittersweet Saturday for Liverpool. Though their Premier League title charge was dented by a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, at Turf Moor, Trent Alexander-Arnold etched his name in history, becoming the Premier League’s most prolific assisting defender.
With a pinpoint corner that led to Diogo Jota’s opener against Burnley, the 25-year-old England international notched his 58th assist, surpassing the previous record held by Leighton Baines. Remarkably, Alexander-Arnold has achieved this feat at a young age, highlighting his extraordinary creative prowess.
But the assist was just a footnote in the grander narrative for Alexander-Arnold, who revealed his unwavering ambition before the Burnley clash: a quadruple. “Winning every single trophy possible,” he declared, setting his sights on the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
And why shouldn’t he dream big? Liverpool currently lead the Premier League by two points, are comfortably nestled in the last-16 of the Europa League, stand tall in the fifth round of the FA Cup, and have a Carabao Cup final against Chelsea looming.
Speaking on the upcoming Carabao Cup final, Alexander-Arnold exuded confidence: “It’s only a couple of weeks before we can get our hands on the first piece of silverware.” He acknowledged the cup competitions can be unpredictable, but expressed his belief that Liverpool can challenge any team in the world.
