AFCON 2027 Under the Microscope as Motsepe Begins Tanzania and Kenya Tour

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe is beginning a high-level visit to Tanzania and Kenya as preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations move into a more visible phase. The tour places stadiums, facilities and wider tournament infrastructure under the spotlight across two of the three host countries.

Motsepe’s two-day schedule

CAF’s programme takes Motsepe to Tanzania on Thursday, 17 September, before he travels to Kenya on Friday, 18 September. The visit is focused on reviewing progress ahead of the tournament and assessing how the host nations are moving from plans to delivery.

A wider readiness check is already under way

The presidential visit follows an eight-day technical inspection by CAF officials across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. That earlier exercise gives the latest tour a broader context: the 2027 AFCON is being prepared as a joint project, and progress in one country will be measured alongside progress in the others.

Why the visit matters

For supporters, the key issue is simple. A major tournament is judged not only by what happens on the pitch, but also by the quality of the venues, training sites and matchday operations around it. Motsepe’s tour is therefore an important checkpoint for the three host nations as they work towards a continental showpiece.

The visit does not by itself settle the readiness question. It does, however, signal that CAF is keeping direct watch over the preparations well before the tournament begins.
