Algeria Survives Burkina Faso Scare to Keep Knockout Hopes Alive

Algeria’s hopes of defending their Africa Cup of Nations title remain alive after they salvaged a 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso on Saturday.

The Fennecs dominated possession and created a number of chances, but they were punished by two clinical finishes from the Étalons.

Algeria pulled level in the 50th minute through Baghdad Bounedjah, but Burkina Faso regained the lead in the 70th minute through a penalty from Bertrand Traoré.

The Fennecs were given a lifeline in the 92nd minute when Bounedjah scored again to secure a point.

The draw leaves Algeria in third place in Group D, one point behind Burkina Faso and two points behind leaders Senegal.

Algeria will need to beat Guinea in their final group game on Tuesday to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
