Zidane Sets Sights on Familiar Turf: French Legend Names Only Three Teams He’d Manage

Zinedine Zidane, the iconic French footballer and manager, has reportedly revealed his dream destinations for his next managerial stint, potentially throwing a wrench into Manchester United’s plans.

The 51-year-old, currently out of management since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, remains a highly sought-after figure. Manchester United, under new ownership led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, reportedly sees Zidane as their ideal candidate for the permanent manager role. However, recent revelations suggest the Red Devils might need to set their sights elsewhere.

According to former Real Madrid teammate Thomas Gravesen, Zidane has his heart set on three specific teams: Olympique de Marseille, Real Madrid, and the French national team. Gravesen, speaking to Discovery+, recounted a conversation with Zidane two years ago where the Frenchman made his preferences clear.

This news comes as a blow to Manchester United’s reported pursuit of Zidane. While they might boast a rich history and passionate fanbase, it seems Zidane prioritizes teams with which he has a deeper connection, either through his playing career or national identity.

Gravesen further highlighted the stark difference between Zidane’s past successes and the current situation at United, suggesting the Frenchman might find it challenging to replicate his magic at Old Trafford. “The team he had in Madrid was fantastic, and he was prepared from the beginning,” Gravesen said, contrasting it with United’s current squad under Erik ten Hag.

Zidane’s managerial record, particularly during his two stints with Real Madrid, speaks for itself. He delivered two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, and a staggering three Champions League trophies, solidifying his reputation as a world-class manager.

While Manchester United might be out of the picture for now, it remains to be seen if Zidane’s dream destinations will reciprocate his interest. One thing’s for sure, the Frenchman remains a highly coveted figure in the world of football, and his next move is sure to generate significant interest.
