Forget England’s young guns or France’s experienced veterans. According to Mourinho, speaking at a tribute event for his father, Portugal – his home nation – has the best shot at lifting the trophy.
“For me, it’s one of the three strongest teams: Portugal, France, and England,” he declared. “Surprises can happen, but looking at the quality and depth they have, Portugal has to go there with the mindset of winning.”
It’s not just blind patriotism driving Mourinho’s prediction. Portugal boasts a formidable squad, with midfield maestros Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva pulling the strings, and the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo still a potent force. With Roberto Martinez at the helm, a manager known for his tactical flexibility, Portugal has all the ingredients for a deep run in the tournament.
This isn’t the first time Mourinho has expressed his desire to manage Portugal. He revealed earlier this year that he was offered the job twice, once while at Real Madrid and again before his Roma dismissal. While he ultimately declined, his comments highlight the belief he has in the team’s potential.
