“United in Crisis? Amorim Clarifies ‘Worst Team’ Comment Before Rangers Clash”

Man United boss Ruben Amorim has walked back his explosive comment about managing “maybe the worst Manchester United side in history” – a statement he made after Sunday’s disappointing 3-1 loss to Brighton.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Thursday’s crucial Europa League match against Rangers, Amorim explained that his harsh words were more about his own performance than a criticism of his players. “Look, I was talking about myself – a coach who’s lost seven or eight of his first ten games,” Amorim explained. “When I made that comment, I was just incredibly frustrated.” The Portuguese manager, who took over from Erik ten Hag in December, acknowledged that his choice of words wasn’t ideal. “Sometimes it’s hard to hide your frustration, but I probably shouldn’t have said it quite like that,” he admitted. United’s struggles this season are clear – they’re sitting 13th in the Premier League after losing 10 of 22 games. But Amorim believes things can turn around quickly, starting with Thursday’s Europa League clash at Old Trafford. “Football can change in an instant,” he said. “If we can keep a clean sheet tomorrow and score first, then follow it up with a win at Fulham – suddenly everything looks different.” The pressure at Old Trafford is clearly taking its toll, with Amorim noting how anxiety is affecting home performances. “It’s getting harder to play at Old Trafford,” he confessed. “When we concede first, it becomes really tough.” United currently sit seventh in their Europa League group with 12 points from six matches. A top-eight finish would secure them a spot in the knockout rounds – perhaps offering a bright spot in what’s been a challenging season.
